Dear God,
Yesterday our world loss an icon, a legend. A tragedy that killed not one, but nine people. This stings. This hurts. This has left all of us speechless....
What do we say to a family mourning a triple death? How do we comfort a family who has loss a husband and child? A father and sibling, simultaneously. The hearts of your people are broken. We need you like never before in this very moment.
As we embrace each day ahead, we choose to not only trust you, but to lean and depend on you for strength, hope, and peace. In our state of disbelief and weakness, may we be reminded of your word. “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV.
Help us to worship you through this storm. Cover the families whose lives will never be the same. May their hearts be comforted knowing that this day did not come by surprise to you. You, and only you knew what January 26, 2020 would be for this world before it ever came. You have gone before us and promised to keep us. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
Help us to choose to stand on your promises and your word. Though darkness clouds our vision, words, and thoughts, we know and believe that “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalms 30:5 NIV. Morning will come. Joy will come, just as you promised.
In Jesus‘ name we do pray, amen.
