Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Mental Health disorders are among the highest of all diseases in the United States. Statistics show that 1 in every 4 adults in the U.S. were diagnosed with a mental health disorder in the past year. The most common disorders being depression and anxiety. Mental Health conditions are characterized by frequent or persistent feelings of sadness, anger, fear, worry, or anxiety that effect your ability to fulfill daily activities.
As a survivor of depression and anxiety, I believe it is only necessary to close the month of May by not only bringing awareness, but also providing resources and support. While facing my own mental health conditions I learned that the battlefield of the mind is real. As an advocate, I believe it is important to not only learn ways to control our thinking, but to also take our thoughts captive.
In mild cases of mental health disorders, we can adapt and overcome by starting small. Start small by writing in journals, reading, crafting, exercising, and doing things that shift our thinking. I am a firm believer that positive minds create positive thoughts which create positive lives. Prayer and affirmations have been my most successful tools to a healthier mental health. Here are a few life changing affirmations I'd like to share with you:
Even in hard times, God has a higher plan
Think about what you're thinking about
Be patient with yourself
Just because the thoughts exist doesn't make it true
Ask God for a lot of help and ask as often as you need to
Don't receive condemnation
God's timing is perfect
You are destined for greatness
Don't burn out, don't quit in hard times, pray all the harder
You can't make it alone. Lean on the Holy Spirit
It's easy to quit; it takes faith to get through
Learn to decide to believe
Renewing of your mind will take place little by little
Your life has a purpose
God didn't create you to be a victim or to suffer
See yourself from the inside out
Lean on God's grace and not your own ability
Rejoice for each new day
You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind
Think on good things
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer
No matter what I tell myself in my lowest moments, the truth is God created me as his perfect masterpiece.
