I’m Empty

Hey Friends! Can you all believe that we are in the third week of January? Sheesh! If your life is anything like mine, then you know all too well how hard it is to come up for air. Is it me or has everyday thus far flown by? We are only eighteen days in the year and I already need a vacation. LOL! Summer me already, please because I’m EMPTY!

So, a week or so ago, I was strolling through my Facebook account when I came across a picture promoting t-shirts that read “Self-ful: the act of filling your cup first.” The seller, Ms. Demetria Reed, posted a photo of her t-shirt line with the caption “there is a difference in being selfish and “self-ful”. Selfishness is the act of making decisions in spite of others, with no regard for consequences, or no sense of purpose or responsibility for your actions. While being self-ful on the other hand, is the act of filling your cup first.” - Y I K E S!

Instantly those words hit home for me! It was a simple yet powerful reminder that it’s okay to put me first. It’s okay to say no to some people and things that don’t add to my filling. It’s perfectly fine to focus on me so that I can be the best version of myself. Life can have a way of making us believe that it is selfish or a negative thing to set goals that only build us up. The reality is though, we need self-ful moments too. We need seasons where we put our well-being and future ahead of everyone and everything else. I mean honestly, what good are we to our family, job, church, friends, and community if we are empty?

In last weeks blog I talked about thirty being my year to thrive. In doing so I’m adding self-ful to the list too. This year I will make room for events, conversations, vacations, and time that lead to roads that create a better Rhonda. I’m being self-ful. Will you join me?
